Technology is getting scary good.

A friend of mine told me about AI Content Generators recently and I thought it would be cool to bring up in this class.  The idea is that artificial intelligence software has gotten so good, that you can simply type in a prompt, and these generators will create articles for you based on one sentence.

How wild is that?!

So for this experiment, I typed in "The evolution of online education."  Below is the article created using a website AI called, frase.io.  You'll notice some interesting claims, one of which is that "online learning has been around since the early 1900s."  I don't remember reading about MOOCs from the 1930s, but maybe there were?

So check it out and be sure to give it a try as well!

1. Online Education

Online education has been around since the early 1900s. In fact, some of the first colleges were created that way. However, it wasn't until the late 1990's that we started seeing a huge surge in the number of students taking courses online. Today, over half of college students take at least 1 course online. This shift from traditional brick-and-mortar schools to online learning has had a significant impact on how people learn.

2. MOOC (Massive Open Online Course)

A Massive Open Online Course, or MOOC, is a type of free online education where anyone can enroll. These classes are typically self paced and have no prerequisites. Students simply need access to the internet. There are currently over 2 million students enrolled in over 10,000 different courses offered through platforms like Coursera, Udacity, edX, and others.

3. MOOC Platforms

There are many platforms out there that offer these massive open online courses. Some of the more well known ones include Coursera, Udemy, and Edx. These companies provide the infrastructure, software, and content for the courses. They also collect data about who takes each class, what they do after completing the class, etc.

  1. Trevor, this seems wild! It's crazy how far AI has come, even if it can't realize that online education wasn't a thing in the early 1900s 😂 I wonder how accurate these content generators really are, if they are creating information like this!

  2. Right?! I've tried some different promotes and they get pretty darn accurate. It is wild has far they've come and I have a hunch that in the next few years we won't be able to tell the difference between AI and human.

  3. This is so cool! Who knew I participated in a MOOC when I participated in a "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" certificate course last year? I had no idea it was a "thing" lol. I even got a certificate!

  4. That is really fascinating. Yes, it seems rather hard to believe that many colleges in the 1900's were founded due to online learning. Obviously we still are not at the point where someone couldn't tell the difference between this article and one written by a human but we are getting closer. I also notice that with these the format is mostly that of giving facts, whereas with a human you can expect an opinion or two to be thrown in.
